Wow, that happened fast. Sorry for not posting since mid July! We just blinked our eyes here at the farm and it is September! We are now engulfed in abundance and hope that you all are enjoying those tasty fruits of our labor as well. The challenge now is to just stay up late enough to put lots of this food away for the coming months. A tasty and healthy fall ahead for sure. The start of autumn allows your farmers a moment to catch our breath for the last stretch and to begin to reflect upon the past season. Four things come to mind from one of our author/mentors, Wendell Berry, Scale, Balance, Diversity, and Quality. I like these four words in action together and I think they define a lot about what we are accomplishing on our farm and in our community. In the crazyness of the season I have these words written on our Farm Board(to do list) and I am able to look at them often and be reminded of their importance above and beyond and also in our moment to moment tasks. So much has happened on the farm since I last wrote that I don't know if I could get it all in here. Those of you at market have noticed our new display and two tents, which we are loving and hopefully you are two. We are learning alot of fall crops and hope to have some great ones for y'all to enjoy. We have found a new piece of ground(in addition to shields) to be able to lease for next season which is closer to our home and other farm and we are in talks about our transition to a longer term farm location in the near future. Very exciting for us! Well back to work! I hope to update much more often, especially as the mornings are getting darker each day and the days cooler. See you at market, Nic |
